Yeti Imperial Stout bottle cap
Yeti Imperial Stout in a standard pint beer glass
YETI IMPERIAL STOUT is an onslaught of the senses. It starts with big, roasty
malt flavor then gives way to rich caramel and toffee notes. YETI IMPERIAL STOUT
gets its bold hop character from an enormous quantity of hops. It weighs in at a
hefty 75 IBU's. Silver Medal, Great American Beer Festival, 2005.

Appearance
Black on black, no light gets through this beer, just as a good stout should be. A
darker brown typical stout head with a chunky character that I like. Even the lacing
on the glass is chunky and impressive.
Big rocky head, stunning actually. Black in
color but when isn't an imperial stout ? Great lacing, small bubbles, and a lot of
character. High specific gravity lends to viscosity. Very, very, nice.

Aroma
Strong, even a bit unique with a fruitiness exceeding that of most stouts. The
strong roasted malt does predominate but an orange citrus scent is almost equal
to the roast. Pleasant and inviting.
Immediate warm alcohol tones with sweet and
roast. Full of licorice elements in addition to the strong coffee. The sweetness
reminds me of the rum adjuncts of a Caribbean Stout. Not one-dimensional, and
Ka-BAM ! Knocks the drinker out, I love it !

Palate
Surprisingly smooth and creamy, yet a significantly strong roast along with a nice
tangy citrus quality. Very flavorful blend.
Lip-smacking sweet and also a bitter
roast. Full-bodied, milky consistency on tongue but far from milky in content.
Powerful rich expresso taste with plenty of anise and chocolate. Well composed
but plenty of aggressive intent.

Finish
A strong "burnt" roast creeps in. Hard to describe, very strong roast yet smooth
and easy in its presentation. Some more sweetness flavors swirl around
wrapping up with a full "burnt but delicious" roast that is as smooth as it is strong.
Everything one would expect from an Imperial Stout. Bittersweet chocolate, hard
licorice, and coffee. Smoky and dramatic.

Synopsis
I like this stout. It's not the most complex stout in the world but it is certainly
multi-dimensional in flavor. The deep roasted malt is presented in a very smooth
fashion with some chocolate and some citrus flavor components. Strong in flavor
yet smooth around the edges and easy drinking. If you want a strong smooth
stout this one is for you. If you like your stout to have a "bite" you will find this one
has had its teeth removed but you won't really feel short-changed.
Not for rookies,
a great stout experience. A good Imperial Stout that expresses itself without
shame. I can't help but to rate this stout highly.
