Appearance
Extremely light clear to yellow color with slight cloudiness. Nice white rocky head,
like the top of a lemon meringue pie. Head was sufficiently lasting. Light in color
with a full rocky head. Good example of a traditional German light beer. Some
cloudiness hurt the score. I would have expected the lack of color to be
compensated with clarity and it was not.
Aroma
So light it is hard to detect. What is detectable is pleasant and seems well
balanced. Mild sweetness, hops, and grains are noticed, as expected for a lager.
Very German, I liked it. The beer is intentionally brewed to be light and I am
detecting some wheat along with the barley. Not overly hoppy, clean all-around.
Palate
Very smooth lightly carbonated palate. A typical but pleasant lager taste.
Consistent with color and aroma. I didn't detect much sweetness. This is a fine
example of a crisp and dry German lager. I have had better, but I have also had
much worse. Basically a traditional Munich-style light lager.
Finish
Strength picks up as usual but still a light and pleasant beer. No new flavors, no
fruity tones or bitterness, basically grains, malt, and carbonation. Would be a
nice summertime beer, an example of a "standard" lager. Good blend of malt
and hop. Crisp and clean, best during Spring and Summer months.
Synopsis
Nothing negative to mention other than the lack of anything pleasantly unusual. A
good lager no doubt. One who likes basically a grainy lager taste with nothing
overtly harsh or expressive will enjoy this lager as it is crisp and clean. Would
have scored higher if marketed as a Pilsner. Perhaps it really is one without
using the word on the label, it is labeled as "premium" and is pale in color, often
indicative of a Pilsner. Dry, crisp, and refreshing, drink ice cold.
