This American Pale Ale has a subtle malty character with noticeable hop flavor
and aroma. Three classic American hop varieties add complexity to this incredibly
drinkable beer. At the end of every glass you will discover how this pale ale got its

Appearance
A dark golden copper tone, effervescent and clear, no cloudiness. WOW ! Look at
the head on this beer, miraculous ! About the best I have seen for any style,
particularly the pale ale category. Slight off-white in color, pour this one fast and
you get the tallest, rockiest, longest lasting head period. An easy perfect score
overall in the appearance category. Wow, tilt the beer to the side and pour, I've
never seen such a rocky head. Effervescent and clear. A medium amber, simply
beautiful. Impressive in all ways.
Aroma
Very unique, sufficiently strong, and the hops are there but actually in the
background. Very complex, the fruity tones abound. I am detecting fresh oranges,
cantaloupe, honeydew melon, grapefruit, bananas, and the overriding scent I
saved to mention last, pears. Malty and sour with very complex flavor
components. Spicy with refreshing melon and maybe pumpkin. Clean and savory
elements. Malt and yeast with a prevailing autumn tone. Not too much of
anything, but at the same time a little bit of everything.
Palate
A touch of creaminess, a pleasant surprise for the style. All of the fruity flavors
mentioned in the aroma are initially present, at first the hops are barely noticed.
Soft and sweet, with a touch of honey flavor. The honey does not seem like an
additive but naturally occurring. Creamy and sweet with components of a fine tea
and a savory pie, yet light and airy at the same time. Complex and interesting.
Finish
All the fruity flavors already mentioned expand in depth and intensity. Sweet and
pleasant tanginess and it becomes amazingly creamy in texture. Some new
woody flavors enter the mix and it does end with a hop zing but oh so mild.
Changing from sip to sip, a new flavor jumps out with regularity. The sweetness
is there and enables the brew to express itself and other flavors formidably. My
only criticism is that my glass is empty and it has left me wanting for more !
Synopsis
I must use the word WOW again. I was impressed with the uniqueness and
complexity at every stage of rating. The fruitiest, creamiest, most deliciously
complex Pale Ale I have ever tasted. Literally shocking in a good way. An
interesting name "The Bitter End". I admit there is a bit of a hop zing hidden until
the very end, but based on the experience of my beer tasting tongue, the
"bitterness" is good but quite mild. I love this Pale Ale and want more. I would
change the name to "I don't want this beer to end !" A hint - if you want the same
appearance and flavor effects don't serve this one ice cold, serve around 55 - 60
degrees F. This seems to be an old beer, by that I mean it makes me think of
style from the past. It fits its category yet is much broader in its reach. If you like
going to brew pubs and trying superb drafts, this one does a great job of
capturing that in a bottle. Perhaps a little sweet, this was a new and impressive
experience for a fellow who has sampled a whole lot of ales. High marks all
around.
