Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. Dry Hopped
Oregon Brewing Co., Newport, OR
Appearance
A slightly reddish brown, a brilliant reddish copper tone when held to a light, but
has some cloudiness. Med. to tall light beige head of decent duration. The head
develops a mix of crusty, chunky, and creamy character. Lacing is good.
A
beautiful deep red that jumps out at you. Cloudy via the additional dry hopping but
this ale still demonstrates its color well. Short off-white head laces magnificently.

Aroma
Strong aromatics, a sweet malt and cherry citrus predominates with some drier
crisper hop notes harmoniously chiming in from the background.
Medium
strength and well controlled. A mild clover honey sweetness marches into a
transition of spicy hop and hard water, an interesting mix and balance.

Palate
Flavorful, a crispness predominates initially but some creamy develops quickly. A
tasty dark sweet malt, cherry citrus, and hints of cantaloupe are detected. A touch
light in presentation but with an appreciated complexity.
A nice pairing of
creaminess and some acidity. A nice dichotomy of texture with a sweet ale taste.
The floral and malty sweetness presents simultaneously with a hop that
explodes into a peppery spice, full but without any unpleasant razor edges.

Finish
Develops more strength and more creaminess at this stage of the experience.
The hop tones take over but in an agreeable fashion, attributed to the dry
hopping. The sweet malt, cherry, and melon citrus make it through to the end as
a nicely blended back-note to compliment the hoppy finish.
The bitters and a
touch of tannic spiciness stepsin to round out the experience. Full, bold, and
expressive with the dry hopping as the differentiating element compared to other
ales.

Synopsis
I found this enjoyable and complex. Easily my favorite Rogue beer thus far. A
unique blend of sweet malt, cherry and melon citrus, and full flavored hop ( but
with dulled edges thanks to the dry hopping). My only recommendation would be
more overall strength in what is already there. A bit difficult to rate due to its
uniqueness, a "rogue" blend if you will, but I will definitely buy this again.
A
reasonably complex brew, true to its red ale intent, and providing some pop of
salt, peppery hop, and organic sweet. A well-rounded enjoyable submission from
Rogue.
