Appearance
Color is gorgeous, very dark mahogany and reddish tones, clear as a bell, tan,
rich, and rocky head of decent duration. Very appealing appearance.
Near
flawless. Deep red color reminds me of what it would be to sit in a comfy chair
with a good book. The color has character and is quite attractive. Very inviting.
The head duration doesn't quite stand up to some competitors but is adequate.

Aroma
Aroma is nice, mild sweetness, mild chocolate, and a mild alcohol flair.
Characteristic of a dopplebock but basically I found the strength to be too light
given alternatives available.
Malty, rich with an element of alcohol. This prepares
the drinker for his first sip, this may have lots of body and be a little bottom heavy.

Palate
Crisp and malty sweet, very relative to style, but again a tad weaker than desired.
Malt, malt, and more malt. This is what dopplebocks are supposed to be but I'm
craving a little balance of bitter and sweet which isn't there. The roast flavor is
clearly there and definitive (in my opinion) of the style.

Finish
Still smooth and pleasant. More mild malty and chocolaty sweetness. Alcohol
tones awaken. Overall decent but more mild than desired in all components.
Alcohol tones come through and leads to a little separation in its finish. It is
noteworthy that this beer has some spiciness which highlights in the finish.

Synopsis
I am comfortable with the B+ rating, this is a nicely flavored beer, but a
constructive criticism is that it is too mild when held to the competition. Maybe
just a touch of hop would help my preference but this beer is characteristic of the
bock style. This style is a "specialty" type of bottom fermented lager, and this is
certainly that. All the smoothness a particular lager drinker could expect. Good for
one who wants a bit more flavor (and sweetness) but likes for beer to remain
smooth and clean. Just not very adventurous in its presentation.
Beer is flavorful
and a true dopplebock, just not my absolute favorite, the mostly one dimensional
maltiness left me wanting more than just the touch of spice detected.
