Our Ale List
Beer Blitz Rater Comments
The Fort Collins Brewery, Fort Collins, CO
A Classic Ruby Red Ale. Remember When ? This banshee of a red ale is a
looker and a taster. Take time to enjoy the assertive hop presence and rich malt
profile. You will be transported back to a time when the griffin ruled.

Appearance
A nice ruby red and amber tone as advertised, but a slight cloudiness holds this
score back a little, still a relatively appealing color. Head is white with some rocky
character of medium duration. Good luminous red color not terribly dark or
expressive but this beer is brewed to be light. Head, if let stand, takes on good
rocky characteristics.
Aroma
Nice fruity aroma, some sweetness comes through. Would have preferred more
strength. Nice expressive tones. A variety of aromas including citrus, honey, hop,
and malt.
Palate
Very smooth drinkable ale. The thinness stops this one from obtaining a higher
score. It is a version of an "American Ale" which often (unfortunately in my view)
are toned down for a large market base of lager drinkers. Consistent with aroma,
a blend of flavors. Crisp on the tongue and light. Fruity with a hoppy tea-like taste.
Finish
Some strength and character comes through in the initial flavors along with a
little bitterness. I would have preferred more sweetness but one who likes a crisp
subtle bitter hoppy finish would find this one satisfying. Full finish but light for the
style. Slightly nutty, definitely hoppy. Permeates the sinuses with its signature
aroma and palate.
Synopsis
A very drinkable beer for one that prefers a light, thin, and milder beer. I would
have preferred more strength, fullness, and character for an ale. Marketed as a
throwback style. This claim is credible as its flavor is reminiscent of a pre WWII
ale.
