Brewed with pumpkin and spices (Cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and cloves)
Appearance
Light orange copper tones, a nice color shade for the style of pumpkin beers.
Had a fair amount of cloudiness. Head was off-white in color, soft for an ale, and
didn't last very long. Warm autumnal orange brown with some slight cloudiness.
Head dissipates relatively quickly leaving a thin looking ale.
Aroma
Significantly strong, pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, exactly as advertised.
Also had strong sweet malt scent. Smells like a delicious pumpkin pie, quite
fitting for a pumpkin beer. Pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove balance
well and are quite pronounced. Cider qualities minus the acidity. Pronounced
without being overwhelming.
Palate
Initial taste was quite thin, carbonated water with just a hint of pumpkin flavor.
Admittedly a let down from what the aroma suggested was in store. Pumpkin and
spice flavor but oddly a little thin. The brew starts mildly creamy but quickly fades
to a thin spice presence. Mild sweetness detected.
Finish
Flavors awaken some, but not as much as I hoped for. Slightly more pumpkin
flavor noticed, then comes some nutmeg. Finishes with more of a carbonation
kick and leaving me wanting for more flavor. Correctly in the pumpkin category,
spices abound and drive the beer almost singularly.
Synopsis
A pumpkin ale yes but in my view needed more overall expression of the flavors it
is trying to capture, too thin. The aroma is great but the lack of fullness and taste
did not match the essence of what the aroma suggests was in store for the
drinker. This ale improves a little with each sip, flavors need plenty of time to
distinguish themselves. A pumpkin beer that seems to have less alcohol and
less oomph than its competitors.
