Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Paulaner Brewery, Munich, Germany
Since 1634. Each one of my Paulaner biers is brewed slowly, all naturally
as they have been for over 360 years.
Appearance
A nice golden amber copper color, clear, no cloudiness here. Carbonation bubbles
noticeably a bit larger than normal, interesting. Head was a light tan, rocky with
character for the style, of decent duration.
Solid amber, clean, clear, and a lighter
carbonation. Beautiful with great body, head demonstrates a rockiness and
character.

Aroma
Nice and strong, grainy like a lager but with more character and fullness. Also
some sweet malt, and mild citrus...like grape. Slightly more alcohol tones than a
lager, like a bock only lighter.
Nice light malt roast. Clean, fresh, and invigorating.
An evocative smell that smells like Octoberfest. A little lemon peel and baked
bread essence.

Palate
Flavor detected without delay, some malty sweetness and slight citrus. Nice and
proper level of carbonation. A touch of creaminess but still mostly crisp.
Pleasant
lightness with a soft sweet. A cereal quality from the malts, just lightly hopped with
a small level of bitter balance. It is what it is and for the better...sweet but not too
sweet, crisp but not too crisp. Great lighter lager.

Finish
All palate qualities - sweet malts, graininess, and even the mix of crispness and
creaminess grow in intensity. Wraps up at the end with very mild hop bitter, then
ends with a soft exit, like that of a premium pilsner.
Clean and crisp and soft and
mellow that leaves one wanting for more. Soft from start to finish, overall great.

Synopsis
Excellent, we rate to style and this one nails the essence of Octoberfest beers
perfectly in my view. A good purebred example of what an Oktoberfest beer
should be. The sweet malt, grains, carbonation, and extremely mild hoppy flavors
alternate rather than cancelling out give this beer a full complex character, I will be
buying this for myself this season.
This true German beer was a nice change of
pace. The hop is light, the yeast & malt big, in contrast to many American
microbrews. Very versatile, satisfying, and representative of the style.
