Porter List

Appearance
Dark brown, a deep reddish brown when held to a light. Clear and effervescent
but this was made a fault, a good porter should be dark enough so that I can't
tell that. Head was a light beige, thick and creamy, with nice lacing on the glass.
Solid brown/black with a red hue up to a light. Head is beige and is moderate in
size with decent legging. Clean and sedentary.
Aroma
Moderate strength of aroma, has an odd tanginess with a sweet and sour
lemon and orange citrus tone. Some mild alcohol tones and a light roast, too
light in fact, for a porter style.
Light to medium roast with a good bit of cocoa tones. Mild fruitiness adds to the
brews complexity, well-balanced and inviting.
Palate
Smooth, a bit too smooth for a Porter. This beer has a very light roast and light
malt and a tangy orange citrus.
Coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt battle for supremacy over a flat chicory
canvas. The Porter's high points are its complexity of craft and availability of
sweet and ale sours.
Finish
All the palate flavors carry through with just a little added strength and a
carbonation kick.
Fish is traditionally with a tannic bite and sharp esters.
Synopsis
I almost hate to be this critical because I like all of Thirsty Dogs other offerings,
but this Porter, while not gross, did not impress me at all. The overall patent
malt roast quality is much too light and thin. The citrus which dominated the
flavor was on unusually tangy presentation that came across as strange.
This Porter is sincere in its intent but becomes bitter as a whole. Not a bad
Porter just a little underwhelming, not Thirsty Dogs best.
This robust Porter is dark brown in color and full bodied with a malty sweet
taste. Deep roasted, yet silky smooth! Two types of roasted malts, including
roasted chocolate malt give this beer its award-winning flavor. World beer cup
Gold Medalist 2002 and bronze medalist, 2000.
