Our Ale List
Great Lakes Brewing Co., Cleveland, OH
Aptly named after the notorious German vampire from the 1920's, our deep red
stock ale is highly hopped and rich with flavor, yet remarkably balanced from start
to finish.  In keeping with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516, this beer is
traditionally, brewed from all natural ingredients:  barley, hops, yeast and water.
No chemicals or preservatives are used.

Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Appearance
Nice amber / copper color. Just a bit of cloudiness holds back the score here.
Attractive beige head, rocky and lasting.
Cloudy ruby red color, actually bordering
on amber. Nice head with a great rocky character. I will ding this beer somewhat
because I feel it is unnecessarily cloudy when compared to similar ales. Much
lighter than other seasonals.

Aroma
Decent in strength. Hoppiness and mild spice is apparent. Also a bit fruity, cherry
comes to mind.
Hoppy aromatic. Very present citrus peel aroma, both lemon and
orange. Malty aroma is present in comparison to the sours and fruit. Good in
many ways, different from recent comparisons. A sharp scent but intriguing, not
as complex but the simplicity of the ale could pay dividends.

Palate
Very crisp and clean comes to mind, pleasant but initially more like a dark lager
style than a stock ale. Unlike lagers though, there are more flavors, spicy, woody,
and sweet. Good but somewhat thin bodied for the style.
Zing. As I expected
citrus and hops blend with sweet to give the ale a refreshing drinkable palate.
The alcohol is well hidden so this beer shouldn't be considered a warmer.

Finish
Balance, balance, balance ! Ok, maybe a tad on the hoppy side but so close to a
perfect balance. The touch of a hoppy bite is not at all unpleasant. Taste is better
than most "americanized" ales, but a bit thinner in mouth feel than the very full
bodied ales, in its own "in-between" space.
Hoppiness is a defining quality and it
grows in bitterness as the beer is consumed, however, the sweetness does
follow all the way through as well. Good blend of sweet and sour.

Synopsis
A remarkable flavor and balance falling just on the hoppy side. To reiterate, the
body of this beer is "in-between" the run of the mill American made ale and that
of the fullest creamiest examples.
Crisp blend. Citrus galore, almost medicinal.
A little bit of a single note in comparison with what I a recently drank. Something I
will get again but not drink at length in one sitting. A beer to pair with food, might
make a good base for a marinade if the Beer Blitz chef is reading this. Good
overall.
