Wheat Ale List
This classic Belgian-style White Beer is brewed with unmalted wheat, a touch of
oats, and then traditionally spiced with coriander and orange peel for a crisp,
refreshing taste and spicy aroma.
Appearance
A very cloudy pale yellow-ish orange, head is white, not very tall, and dissipates
rapidly. Lacing on the glass is decent. Unassuming cloudiness to an off-golden
somewhat orange hue. Head is of modest intensity with light legging and short
duration.
Aroma
Good aroma strength. An orange citrus zest dominates, then you get wheat and
oat scents, then very mild coriander spice in the background. A grabbing bouquet
of aromas. Reminiscent of some Belgians with apple, nut, salt, honey, and
background sours. Has an impressive cider aroma quality.
Palate
Crisp and flavorful, an orange citrus zest, full flavored wheat, and a pleasant
carbonation zest. Crisp and smooth with orange flavor. A tangy cider quality and
some nuttiness. Spicy components appear at different intervals. With all the
flavor components this beer is still clean and silky, wonderfully drinkable. A
terrific summertime choice.
Finish
The wheat flavor really takes over here but the orange zest and coriander spice
alternates back in periodically. Finishes hearty and "wet", refreshing,
thirst-quenching, and full flavored for the style. An acidic tartness wipes the
palate clean and transitions well into the finish. Palate flavors continue with
some spiciness of hop and residual yeast.
Synopsis
Another nice entry from Two Brothers Brewing. This is a full flavored wheat
example but also with an easy drinking quality. Full wheat, orange citrus zest,
coriander and hop spice, all good with an alternating balance. We published a
news story when we heard about this relatively new beer and I am glad we finally
found it to try. I find myself increasingly enamored with this brewery. They excel in
heavy and light styles, and those in-between. A good bit of character in a light
wheat package.
