Clipper City Brewing Loose Cannon IPA bottle cap

Loose Cannon IPA in a Pilsner or Lager Glass
This here pounder has fine layer of yeast at her bottom. It won't send you to Davy
Jones' locker but will protect your brew from the rigors of life at sea ! Our Loose
Cannon Hop 3 Ale is a hop shot across the bow ! Hops, hops, AND MORE
hops-over three lbs. per barrel, at three different times in the process. Herbal
and aromatic: an amazing delicious American IPA.
Clipper City Brewing Co. Baltimore, MA
Appearance
An appealing medium dark golden color, clear as a bell, with only light
carbonation noticed. Head was spectacular, thick, off-white in color, and takes on
a rocky character during is significant duration. Also had heavy lacing on the
glass.
Dark golden, almost orange in color. Clear but hues of color seem to
disguise a crystal appearance.

Aroma
Wow, strong, and hoppy as advertised. Amongst the avalanche of hop scents
some citrus, basically peach, can vaguely be detected.
Very spicy, heavily
hopped. Piney nose with coriander and some woody elements. Potent with the
hops being overpowering, one has to imagine additional components such as
malt but they clearly take a distant background.

Palate
The palate is surprisingly crisp and smooth, only light hops detected early with a
light malt taste and citrus sweetness.
Silky with a clear hop spice bite. More
elements come out in tasting than in smelling. Citrus is an addition with a zest of
orange and lemon. Hints of pineapple are also present. Acidic on the tongue
even with its creamy texture.

Finish
Holy cow ! Hops quickly stab the taste buds and fly through the sinuses. Even for
an IPA I feel the hops are way overdone, too overpowering any other qualities that
the beer might have had.
Crisp and acidic. This ale will overwhelm the sinuses
as it is designed to do. Not necessarily to drink in any quantity as the first drink
isn't much different than the last.

Synopsis
Pleasant appearance and initial taste but quickly the hops will curl your toes
three times over. Fair warning, if you don't like the super heavy hop beers this one
is not for you. If you are a dedicated "hop head" you may want this in your fridge. I
feel even for an IPA style the hops are overdone to a fault. A bit too sharp to
appreciate flavor.
Heavy Seas is famous for going to extremes in their products,
most of the time a winning formula. This beer is for true hop hounds only. Is the
ale good ? Yes and no. It is clearly well made except the bitterness is
astronomical. I kind of like it myself but warn the common taster to beware of the
hop.
