Appearance
Both a golden and dark copper color, moderately effervescent, clean and clear.
The head is light tan and has some character relative to the style, some lacing but
the head dissipated relatively quickly. Clear medium amber. Head is light and
dissipating with some lacing. Orange in hue when held to a light. Brew has nice
inviting color with light carbonation.
Aroma
Enjoyable, a strong aroma presence. Crisp and light in character. This smells like
a lager drinkers beer, strong graininess, light variety of sweet malt, no hops
noticed, and a surprising orange citrus component. Robust and sweet malt,
caramel and light roast with minor spice. A departure from other Oktoberfest lager
beer, very light hop presence.
Palate
Light but sweet variety of malt flavors, light citrus, and a clean refreshing water
essence. A nice lighter blend of barley malt and hop nose. Clean, lightly sweet,
mid-level creamy, with a full lager taste.
Finish
All palate components intensify but then give way for the entrance of graininess,
carbonation, and some hop. The sweet malt and citrus are again there at the end
but in the background of the graininess and light hop that took over. Fresh with
just a bit of bite. Not dry in the finish but a little lacking in the follow-through of
palate flavors. Sweet tones dissipate quickly and balance well with hop.
Synopsis
A good and very drinkable beer. Refreshing and clean light malt, citrus, grains,
and a bit of hop. A good example of the style, it just presents itself on the light
side. Not bad Left Hand. Think of a slightly sweeter amber lager. This would be
good in the Spring as well. Good drinking lager in quantity, nice all-around, but not
quite spectacular.
