Lagunitas Pilsner Head
Like Adam and Eve, Isaac and Ishmael, Mao and Confuscious, Good and Evil,
Day and Night, Hittites and Visigoths, John and Lorena, or Groucho and Moe,
Ales and Lagers are as different as can be. Still, we must love each for who they
are, separately but equally, with liberty, and justice, for all. Cheers!
Lagunitas Brewing Co., Petaluma, CA
Appearance
Impressive, an attractive medium golden tone, clear as a bell, and effervescent.
Head is snow white, tall, and with a creamy and dense consistency. Duration is
good and the lacing on the glass is also good. A perfect pilsner appearance, I
wouldn't change a thing for this style.
A true golden and beautiful hue. Well
carbonated with a superlative white foamy head. Pours like a draft. Striking and
inviting.

Aroma
Great strength, especially for the pilsner style. Grains, a light malt, a little cherry
citrus sweet, medium hop, and even mild alcohol tones.
Traditional malt and
requisite sours from the hops. Some sweetness and graininess. A complex beer
that can still be appreciated by its ability to nail the basics.

Palate
A full and flavorful pilsner. Silky and a light creaminess, yet still has the requisite
grains, carbonation, and hop presence. Includes a very mild citrus sweet,
basically a light cherry and grape.
Soft yet crisp with a full body. Silky mouthfeel is
invigorating. Sweetness builds but doesn't overstep itself. Builds flavor and
satisfies thirst simultaneously.

Finish
More expected graininess kicks in strong and the hops claim some authority
here as well. The citrus sweet and malt remains but off in the background. Coats
the mouth and throat with a silky softness.
Finish is just slightly drier and
introduces a solid hop bite with some salt. Malt remains in limbo and is
satisfying all-around. Not delicate, not overbearing, just traditional pilsner.

Synopsis
Wow, complexity not often seen in a pilsner. You could almost say a pilsner that
drinks like an ale ! Has the requisite grains, light malt, and hop, with some
expertly crafted additions. My favorite pilsner to date and favorite Lagunitas
product to date, I would recommend this to any pilsner beer drinker.
A nice
example of a beer that meets expectations of the style. A definitive Czech style
beer, I could picture sitting in Prague sipping this beer in the town square.
