Dunkles Starkbier
Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Appearance
Wonderful, a dark rich amber with a hint of red. Clear as a bell, no cloudiness
here. Head is a nice light beige, takes on a rocky characteristic, with good
duration. Very impressive rich red color, very clear, a bit of a surprise. Nice head,
full of character.
Aroma
Very rich, strong, malty, chocolaty sweet aroma. Enjoyable. Grainy malty aroma
that grabs its drinker and lets them know what they are in store for.
Palate
Smooth and creamy, sweet and chocolaty, yet well balanced. Its not overbearingly
sweet, simply a wonderful full bodied flavor. A powerful cereal taste. This is a
good thing. Has plenty of sweet to counteract the hop. Traditional Munich
dopplebock, does a great job of defining the style.
Finish
Maltiness and chocolate make up the sweet flavor, each swells in intensity and
even some hop character appears. All pleasant, some warming characteristic but
alcohol tones are well controlled. The sum of all its parts, this beer continues to
grow in expressiveness with a smooth departure.
Synopsis
Amazingly full bodied period and particularly for the style. The best dopplebock
beer I can ever recall drinking, it will be a difficult hunt to find one that tops this.
Creamy and smooth, grows in itself. About the best of its style to date, nothing to
criticize.
