Kellerweis Hefeweizen beer head
Kellerweis is deeply complex, with flavors reminiscent of ripe bananas and spicy
clove. This hazy golden beer glows with suspended yeast creating a velvety
texture. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Chico, CA      www.sierranevada.com
Appearance
A pale yellowish / whitish gold. Glowing tones, cloudy as advertised but presents
as an attractive evenly distributed wheat haze. Head is off-white of decent height
and duration. Impressive thick lacing on the glass.
A cloudy gold, true to recipe.
Dead on definitive Hefeweizen, head dissipates a little quickly but the beer does
have pronounced legging.

Aroma
KA-BAM ! This aroma is strong enough to earn your respect. Predominate
banana scents, cloves, and a nice wheat not far off in the background. This one is
spot on as advertised per the label.
Unadulterated wheat and a terrific lemon
citrus sour. A great aromatic with summer herbs and a complete wheat nose.
Perhaps even a little basil for a solid platform. Has depth and class.

Palate
Complex flavor profile and an impressive ale creaminess. Some banana sweet,
good pale malt, light hop, and a delicious wheat is not far behind.
Wildly creamy,
dry, and sour, all at the same time. Everything just feels right. A strong bite, yet
soothing as well. This beer understands itself and heightens it's own pluses.
Controlled and crafted, a spectacular example of a wheat beer.

Finish
Here is where you know you are having a Hefeweizen. The strong and wonderful
wheat flavor takes over the lead but the banana, clove, and light hop (in that order)
continues to chime in from the background.
Soft and controlled and with a
tongue-curling sour, Terrific ! The beer seems to dissolve on the tongue with a
freshness remaining.

Synopsis
Pleasantly surprised, my new favorite from Sierra Nevada, and my new favorite
wheat ale period. Complex with banana, clove, pale malt, awesome wheat, and
very light hop. I remember Sierra Nevada being about the best American brewery
decades ago, then being passed up by Bell's, Flying Dog, etc. Well, this beer
marks a new milestone for Sierra Nevada, their first perfect 100 score on Beer
Blitz and a trend that could put Sierra Nevada back in my top few favorite
breweries.
Sierra Nevada, already a great brewery, steps outside of their own
comfort zone with this one and in a spectacular fashion. Good grasp of flavors,
my favorite Sierra Nevada product bar none.
