Hudepohl Gold Lager Beer
Hudepohl Gold brings back fond memories, this beer is definitely missed. This was a golden lager
not really in the "craft beer realm", but in our view a cut above typical national lager beers. With
just a bit darker golden color than most lagers, a bit more fullness, and a bit more sweetness, this
lager stood out. This beer listed "corn grits" in the ingredients which seemed to provide more
color and flavor than other lager "add-ins" such as rice. Hudepohl remained a basically local
favorite throughout Ohio, based in Cincinnati. It has been speculated that had Hudepohl Gold
attempted to obtain a national presence at the same time or before the national beers known
today, it would have been a major player in the lager market. We at Beer Blitz agree, we feel that
this lager was better than the typical national brands sold today and it is sad that it is no longer
brewed. A testament to the marketing field, a good product without the proper marketing can be
overtaken by inferior products with a better marketing staff.
