List of Rye Ales
Hop Rod Rye Ale
Hop Rod Rye is a high performance, turbo charged, alcohol burnin' monster ale
with dual overhead hop injection, made with 18%. Brewmaster notes - Don't
drink & drag. Sediment at bottom of bottle may be a result of the truckload of
hops in this non-filtered ale.

Appearance
An attractive brownish orange ice tea color, a copper orange when held to a light.
Effervescent and clear as a bell even though the label advertises this as a
non-filtered beer. Head was a lighter beige, moderate height, and has a creamy
dense character along with good lacing.
Great amber-brown with a beige rocky
head. As an unfiltered variety this brew is extraordinarily clean. A lot of enticing
elements to a semi-ideal appearance.

Aroma
Decent strength with an unusual mix of strong hop spice, a caramel sweetness,
and a nice rye, in that order.
Spicy and very hoppy,  rye takes a bit of a backseat to
the hop. Sweet and familiar this aroma is a bit arresting, in a good way. Piney
like a stiff IPA, but much more depth and complexity.

Palate
Flavorful right away, yet smooth and lightly creamy. The malt and caramel sweet
presents immediately, followed by a really nice rye flavor.
As advertised, this is a
monster ale. The rye is designed to be an partner flavor to a heavily hopped
brew. It works well as the malt content keeps the heavy hop palatable. Spicy hop,
sweetness, and grain. Creamy and oddly refreshing.

Finish
The sweet caramel vanishes quickly here and a well blended hop and rye takes
over with authority while leaving a touch of the sweetness intact. I can't say
enough about how wonderfully the hop and rye flavors blend together and
compliment each other. The wonderful spiced up rye resonates for a bit, then a
touch of sweet is noticed on the tip of the tongue.
This finishes smoothly relative
to boldness of palate. If a feature of the brew is rye, this is where it raises it's
head, pleasantly rough and proportional.

Synopsis
WOW, a true rye ale, my favorite example of this style to date. Attractive
appearance, and complex with caramel and malt sweet, hop, and rye. All are
present in the aroma and palate, but the finish is where this beer really shines. I
literally love the expertly blended rye and hop. The hops here basically
supercharge the rye flavor and enhance the strength of the rye rather than drown
it out. A definitive rye ale, if I were to be asked to recommend a rye ale, this one
would be it... BRAVO !
A unique brew as the flavoring agents all serve a purpose.
I admire the balance and creativity and greatly enjoyed the experience. I am a
believer in incorporating rye with hop !
