Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Shmaltz Brewing Company, Saratoga Springs, NY
Why is this beer different from all other beers?  In the beginning, there was an
idea, and it was good: A Gourmet Kosher Microbrew to celebrate the bounty of
our own American land of milk and honey.  Our first creation is Genesis Ale, a
rich, smooth, and distinctive light brown ale.  A smidgen of Middle East, a dash of
American West.  Then we tasted it, and it was very good .  After 5000 years of
civilization, finally a microbrew which the chutzpah to call itself, The Chosen Beer.
From the Golden Gate to the City of Gold, may HE'BREW join in the blessings of
your lives.... To Life!  L'Chaim!
Appearance
Decent light brown color as advertised but a touch of cloudiness. Nice white,
rocky, and lasting head.
Light carbonation, a little cloudiness. Light brown to
amber color. Head is soft with some rockiness.

Aroma
Nice aroma, would have preferred a bit more aroma strength. A pleasant
bittersweet orange peel and spicy scent is apparent.
Fruity floral aroma which
dissipates over time. What remains is a malty and slightly hoppy crisp texture.

Palate
Very smooth and drinkable as advertised. A slight creaminess noticed but mostly
thin for an ale. A mild sweetness and maltiness, nothing really unpleasant but
lacking a bit of distinct flavor fullness.
Consistent with aroma and slightly dry.
Very, very subtle roast quality. Starts off silky but trails off a little on the initial taste.

Finish
Flavor comes more alive in the finish. Some more malty and fruity sweetness,
and general strength awakens. There is an orange peel type bitterness that is
actually pleasant tasting. Would have preferred a bit more strength in the other
flavor dimensions in order to give a higher score.
Finishes dryly with some bitter.
Full mouth feel wears away very quickly.

Synopis
A good drinkable beer, would be a good summertime ale. Better than most
lagers, I would recommend more to a lager drinker wanting to try something new,
but this does not fall in my mental "top ales" list.
Overall this is good but not great.
Versatile beer, good as a thirst quencher but only slightly robust. Good for late
winter, spring, and early summer. Light brown by definition and in character.
