Great Lakes Grassroots Saison Ale beer head
Appearance
A light to medium golden color with plenty of cloudy sediment but not out of place
for this style. The head is just barely off-white and color and phenomenal for a
saison ale. Head is tall, thick, long lasting, develops a chunky character, and
there is excellent lacing on the glass.
True to form with a cloudy unfiltered gold.
Head is rocky with lots of character. Brew looks fresh and inviting.

Aroma
Aroma has decent strength. Spice, pale malt and grains, with a touch of
background sweet. Basically what I would expect for the style.
A saison, albeit a
mild one. No criticism, the flavors work...lemon, coriander, sweet, and a little salt.
Reminds me a bit of popcorn.

Palate
Flavorful right away, plenty of spice and hop. Pale malt and grains with just
enough light sweetness for a good balance.
Lightly sweet and silky with a bit of a
back bite. A touch thin but slowly grows in depth.

Finish
Spices pick up intensity, as does the graininess and background hops. The
sweet lemon-lime citrus is held way in the background, just present enough to
take the edge off.
Mild finish as the herbs remain. Fresh like a sweet-tea, but
much more subtle. Coriander and citrus remain, as if in a wheat beer, but more
delicate.

Synopsis
I always have high expectations for Great Lakes and this one does not
disappoint. A true saison ale with pale malt, plenty of spice, requisite hops,
graininess, and a very mild lemon-lime to balance the sharp edges.
If you are a
fan of Belgian brews you might like this. The flavors are ever-present but not as
bold, this beer takes less risks. This has what one would want from a
springtime/summertime beer.
Our fragrant saison (French for "season") is blended with coriander, lemon
balm, chamomile and lemon basil, some of which were sustainably grown on
our "Pint Size Farm" at Hale Farm & Village in Bath, Ohio. This mild ale honors
the grassroots efforts of our company and our unwavering commitment to
Mother Earth.
