Appearance
Attractive appearance and surprisingly clear as this is a wheat beer. Color is a
brilliant reddish orange copper tone. Head is taupe in color, med. height, creamy,
but relatively short in duration. Lacing is good. Fascinating orange to crimson
color. A light head for a heavy brew, intriguing.
Aroma
An impressively strong and complex aroma. I am getting banana, plum, wheat,
and clove scents, in that order. Warm, nutty, and sweet. An autumn brew with a
winter feel on a solid platform of wheat. Some sours establish theirselves.
Palate
Lightly creamy mouth feel and flavorful right away. A pleasant but strong wheat
flavor is balanced nicely with some banana and malt sweetness. Crisp with
lemon and lime citrus sours, a rich wheat, and sweet kick-off. Finally some hoppy
spice notes become present, a little grassy, but not in a negative sense.
Finish
The wheat flavor intensifies followed closely by the banana / ale flavors. Some
spiciness, clove and hop, jump into the background along with mild alcohol
tones. The bitter hop and sour citrus tones add some dryness to this very busy
beer. Finishes quite bubbly, provokes thirst and satisfies.
Synopsis
Another great beer from Great Lakes. A complex beer with a nice balance. Has
the requisite wheat and sweetness for a weizenbock in a well controlled and
balanced package, no flavors are overbearing. An impressive array of wheat,
banana, clove, malt, and alcohol tones. A little something for everyone. An
absolute "A: for adventure, one of the more interesting beers in recent memory. A
fascinating departure from most wheats, basically a wheat, bock lager, and ale
all in the same glass.
Rockemspiel ? Sockemspiel ? No, Glockenspiel, which is literally German for
"bells playing". No matter how you pronounce it, our Weizenbock beer can be a
mouthful both for its tongue-twister name and its unique flavors, aromas and
full-bodied deliciousness. Our Weizenbock ale is named after the Glockenspiel
of Marienplatz in Munich, Germany, which features 43 bells and 32 life-sized
figures that chime and re-enact two 16th century stories each day. Plum-colored
and full-bodied, our Glockenspiel combines spicy notes of clove and banana
with a complex finish.
This beer is traditionally brewed from all natural ingredients: barley, wheat, hops,
yeast and water. No chemicals or preservatives are used.
