Appearance
Attractive, a surprisingly dark copper, reddish, and brown tones. Not dark enough
to really be a dark lager but much more dark than typical lagers. It is crystal clear
with plenty of carbonation. Head is a light tan with plenty of character and
duration for the style, nice lacing on the glass as well. Nice clear copper red
color and nicely carbonated. Darker than anticipated and pleasantly so.
Appearance suggests this will be a solid product.
Aroma
Excellent strength of aroma. An expected grainy and malty scent along with
unexpected citrus tones such as lime, pear, and apple. Malty and some fruity
qualities. Nice crisp aroma wakes up receptors. Pleasantly surprising. Thus far
this beer has much more character than most lagers.
Palate
The initial taste was a bit of a let-down. It seemed a bit flat, clean but thinner than
expected. Refreshing with a slight hop nose and malt flavor. Some sweetness
from the darkened malt, a good balance of components.
Finish
Oh, there it is ! This beer recovers nicely once a little more time is given to taste
it. The carbonation, grainy flavor, and citrus sweetness dramatically appear after
the brief delay. This lager even has a hop zing at the very end, mild overall, but
this hop zing was a pleasant surprise for a lager. Satisfying and fresh. The
crispness and maltiness come through and have more staying power than in a
typical lager. This has enough oomph to compete with any lager.
Synopsis
Pleasant. The appearance and aroma are spectacular. Given time this beer
turned in to an impressively complex flavored lager. Thus far this is the best from
Full Sail that I have tried, I am surprised this is not a full time offering. I believe
the lager drinker would buy this one year round if it was available. For fans of
light lagers with a little sense of adventure this one is highly recommended. I feel
this is the best Full Sail product I have tried to date. As usual with lagers, enjoy
this one ice cold. It lives up to or exceeds its advertising.
