Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Full Sail Brewing, Hood River, OR
12 FLUID OUNCES OF RIDICULOUSLY TASTY INDIA PALE ALE CONCOCTED
BY OUR MASSIVE BREWFORCE OF 47
Appearance
Medium dark copper color, a dull shade. Head is off-white, wavy in character,
forms so rockiness with time, and is of medium duration. Some minor
cloudiness in the beer, more apparent when held to a light. Golden to light amber.
A light rockiness to the head. Beer has some small trouble sustaining itself.
Good lacing but some cloudiness for a middle-shelf microbrew.
Aroma
Decent amount of overall strength with a definite hop presence as expected. Also
has a significantly strong orange citrus with some grainy scents trailing in the
background. Definite hoppy character but not overdone. Pronounced fruity and
floral tones blend with soft malt. Pleasant aroma, my favorite attribute of the beer
itself.
Palate
An immediate flavor presence, tart and tangy orange citrus as soon as it hits your
tongue. Both crisp and smooth with the hop presence initially subdued. Starts
with a crisp bite that mellows with time. Orange zest prevails along with a bit of
sweet and definite hop. A little harsh at times, perhaps a bit rough for the style.
Tea qualities come to mind when describing this beer.
Finish
The tangy citrus fades to an array of hoppy flavors, bold and strong, yet I would say
controlled. No real sharp harshness in my view the beer wraps up with a mild
orange peel flavor. Dirty with lasting hop and citrus. An acidic quality and slight
saltiness. This is something to drink with something....bread, sandwich, summer
sausage, etc. By itself enjoyable but somewhat one dimensional.
Synopsis
A nice IPA in my opinion. Has a bold hop flavor that is decently controlled with the
citrus sweetness. Those who must have a tongue twisting / painfully hopped beer
would find this one weak but I think most would agree this one is both easy
drinking and full flavored for the flavors that are there. A constructive criticism
would be that it could use a bit more zing and complexity of flavor to really stand
out in the crowd. Not an overly complex brew, if you want to tinker with the flavors
vary the temperature. A bit warmer will provide a much fuller experience than that
of the ice cold state. A very thirst quenching product, light enough to enjoy in
quantity but full enough to at least satisfy as a quick pint.
