List of Stouts

Appearance
Dark black as a stout should be, no light penetrating this beer. Head is a dark tan
color, just slight short in height. Very creamy head texture for the style, only a
touch of rocky character develops. Rich burnt caramel head. Small bubbles
converge to form a cement-like head. Not as rocky or expressive as some
examples but inviting. Color is expected black as any other Imperial Stout.
Aroma
Strong aroma, very strong alcohol tones and some sweet lime citrus. The dark
roast & coffee scents are there but surprisingly held in the background. Aroma
suggests you are in for a strong beer. High alcohol gives way to peat and
expresso. Burnt sugar and a hop nose. Nice blending of bitter in sweet in this
aggressive aroma.
Palate
Flavorful right away and a bit of a creamy mouth feel. As aroma suggested, deep
roasted malt flavor and a lime citrus flavor component. A unique tartness to
accompany the sweet roasted malt. Silky and powerful with coffee, anise, and a
sour hoppiness. Very full flavored.
Finish
Full bodied, dark roasted malt and coffee flavor quickly overtakes the lime citrus
sweet. Some hop flavors kick in, the lime sweet remains but is held well into the
background. Full alcohol warming and a hint of a dark chocolate in the finish.
Coffee, licorice, and a controlled alcohol warmth. You drink and feel this stout,
silky qualities but yet strong, its strength is spread around and is an overall
experience.
Synopsis
Impressive and full-bodied, as well as complex. Roasted malt, coffee, lime
citrus, hops, touch of dark chocolate, and alcohol warming. This stout falls well
onto the sweet side. Sweet but also strong, all stout fans would enjoy but the
sweetness pulls it just a bit away from traditional stout expectations. A powerful
burst-out taste as Imperial stouts should be. I am curious how this one might
taste after an extended cellaring.
