Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Appearance
Nice amber shiny copper color, clear as a bell, no Halloween cloudiness here !
Pleasant balance of carbonation. The head was short, soft in character, and
dissipates somewhat quickly. Not much penalty given here as these head
attributes seem to be inherent within the pumpkin beer category.
Crystal clear
and effervescent. No lasting head, not much lacing. A bit thin in appearance but
still on the "high end" within the pumpkin beer category.

Aroma
As strong as one could ask for, all advertised elements are present - pumpkin,
brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, and even the cinnamon. Not only smells like a
pumpkin pie but like a delicious freshly baked one ! Perfect for the style in my
view.
Impressive in that the pumpkin is prevalent even with all the additional
strong spicing. Well balanced with the requisite cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
Clean, fresh, inviting, and a little alcohol tone finds its way into the equation.

Palate
Flavor immediately strikes the tastebuds. Has a creamy quality with a delicious
flavor if you in fact like the taste of a good pumpkin pie with a touch of whip. Flavor
similarity to an actual pie is amazing but with enough malt and hop to still be a
beer.
Nice creamy texture with initial strong clove. After a few sips the beer adds
components. A nice pumpkin sour with a back end of brown sugar. Sweetness is
muted but sugars add to the overall texture.

Finish
All the palate qualities are there but grow exponentially in intensity. This ale
finishes off with some more traditional hop spice and a warming quality so you
that you remember you are in fact drinking a beer.
Finishes with pumpkin, a nice
nose with sweet and sour existing equally. More complex as all the normal
spiced pumpkin beer elements are there also with some vanilla and a
distinguished tartness.

Synopsis
Tastes like the perfectly balanced pumpkin pie, not too sweet, but just right. My
own personal score was a perfect 100 for this beer. This is not because I am
crazy about the pumpkin beer style ( I'm not in fact), but if a pumpkin beer is what
you want for a Halloween party or whatever I can not fathom being able to find
another pumpkin beer that is better than this one. All breweries have their own
talents. Integrating non-traditional flavors with a beer ( pumpkin, raisins, etc.) is
something that I believe Dogfish Head can do better than any other brewer.
Darn
good pumpkin, moderate in alcohol. Not overly done but a clean base of quality
ingredients, just as expected from Dogfish Head.
