You have just picked up a Winner. Dark Horse Lager came from behind in a
field of 2,832 to win a BRONZE MEDAL * at the Great American Beer Festival.
This very well-balanced, deep copper brown lager has a great lightly hopped
character with drinkability that leaves you wanting another.
* 2007 American Dark Lager Category
Elevator Brewing Co., Columbus, OH
Appearance
A goldish dark brown, a deep red copper when held to a light, clear, effervescent,
and inviting. Head is light beige, moderate height, duration, and lacing. Overall
decent for the lager style.
A mahogany hue to a clear effervescing beer, a
beautiful dark lager.

Aroma
Respectable strength for a lager, a tangy orange citrus, dark sweet malt, grains,
an just a whisper of a chocolate tone.
Abundant sweet to a malty and earthy
lager. Light hop and even a noticeable roast to the barley.

Palate
Flavorful right away, sweet dark malt, orange citrus, chocolate, even some
creaminess to compliment the lager crispness.
Silky and slightly chocolaty. A
rich dark lager with big flavors that are a blend of smoke and sweet.

Finish
The carbonation crispness picks up, but all of the palate flavors carry through,
wraps up with traditional grainy and light hop lager finish with a hint of salt and a
lager "roughness"
A nice remaining roast, a little dry and slightly rough, but an
honest dark lager.

Synopsis
An enjoyable dark lager, complex with dark malt, tangy citrus, chocolate tones,
hop, and salt. The overall presentation is just a bit light and the finish a bit rough
but dark lager fans would not be disappointed with this one.
A lot of pop to a
beer that concentrates on the basics. I was pleasantly surprised, in a style that
generally lacks alot of personality, this lager has one. An interesting roast to the
barley for the lager style.
