Bell's Brewery, Inc., Comstock, MI
A traditional dopplebock fermented with an old world lager yeast.  Reddish brown
in color, with a mild hop profile, Consecrator is a well-balanced, full-bodied beer
with a smooth, malty finish.
Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Appearance
Beautiful multi-dimensional color. Copper, reddish tones, and a few medium
browns. No cloudiness, very effervescent on initial pour. Off-white colored head
was decent, a slight lack of character and limited duration prevented a perfect
score.
Very nice ruby to amber color, nicely carbonated. Crystal clear, nicely
sustained head. Overall very good.

Aroma
Great strength for the style, very sweet. Fruity tones detected included banana
and raisin. A very mild chocolate scent and milder alcohol tones also present.
Aroma suggests that this will be a good full flavored beer.
Good rich maltiness
balanced with a sharp zing of hop. Mild earth roast evocative of a dopplebock.
Clean and pleasing.

Palate
Sweet and silky, surprisingly smooth. Just barely on the thin side, seems to have
very light carbonation initially despite the effervescent appearance. Pleasant, the
sweetness is not overdone.
Creamy maltiness. Good hearty sweetness but not
overly so. Hops give beer completeness. Well rounded hitting on all points. A little
lighter than other dopplebocks. Unexpected blend of flavors, not to its detriment,
but non-traditional.

Finish
Extra flavors awaken, maltiness, light chocolate, and banana flavors erupt. Some
carbonation kick and just a little from hop. A very well balanced beer just a hint on
the sweet side. An alcohol warming characteristic presents at the very end but
was pleasant, not at all overbearing.
A little bitter creeps in toward the end of the
glass, separating slightly on the tongue. Consistent throughout categories.
Finish and aftertaste not any different from palate which I deem to be a sign of
quality.

Synopsis
An excellent beer as typically expected from the Bells Brewery. Nothing
unpleasant to say about this beer. Love the flavor and character is head and
shoulders above a typical "americanized" bock which are often very thin. This
dopplebock is just a bit lighter than other examples, specifically German
counterparts of the style. A little more strength would have propelled this to a
perfect score.
Positive experience throughout. I felt this beer to have some
untraditional qualities but not to its detriment. Good for those used to lighter
beers wanting to step up to a fuller flavored selection. Overall excellent, par for the
course from an exceptional brewery.
