List of Stouts
Appearance
Black in color, no surprise, a very dark brown with help to a light, and just a bit of
light gets through this. The head is tall, media tan, dense and creamy with a
small craters, has decent duration and good lacing.
A stout no doubt. Black, but has a little color when held to a light, basically red
and brown. Heavy composition and thickness both with a mellow and soft feel.
Intriguing! This brew makes me curious. Short head laces extremely well.
Aroma
Nice and strong, and complex. I am getting a dark chocolate note, some sweet
malt, Tangy orange and lime citrus, strong but pleasant alcohol tones, and the
requisite roast.
Full bodied and sweeter than expected. Malty sugars are present with the roast.
Great aroma that gives an impression of almost a dopplebock, or a fruity Porter.
Warming, certainly alcohol punch.
Palate
Smooth and flavorful, not thin but not heavy either, mild creaminess, a roasty and
sweet malt with sweet and tangy citrus. Tasty and drinkable.
A nice roasted malt that is chocolaty and friendly. Sweet but not like a milk stout.
Finish
A strong dark roast flavor takes over, followed by the sweet dark chocolate, the
orange and lime citrus flavors blend into a tangy mix and then alternate back in
periodically as a back note. Alcohol tones are there but are very mild.
While presenting a rich canvas this finish leaves a glimmer of clean water. The
coffee and chocolate remain without the anise that some stouts offer. Solid and
enjoyable, this stout is different for better or worse.
Synopsis
A very easy drinking yet full flavored stout. The requisite roasted malt, citrus, it
chocolate ( in a dark bittersweet presentation) are all there. Not weak but not the
heaviest stout on the shelf. A good beer for anyone, great beer for those that find
the heavier stouts a bit too strong. A middle to strong stout in the overall spectrum.
For many this will be a rich roasted stout, but trust me, they get a lot stronger.
This is really a hybrid in regards to the introduction of sugars on top of the
roasted sweetness that one might expect. I think this is a good venture into the
stout category by Bear Republic.

Big Bear, as the name implies, is a hefty black stout. This stout boasts a rich,
