Old Godfather Barleywine style ale
Below Decks Barleywine Style Ale
Barleywine Ale List
Clipper City Brewing Co. Baltimore, MA
Our nod to classic English Barleywine-style ales., Below Decks is deep copper in
color with a luxurious malt character. Have some now… and cellar some for later
! Very limited release.

Appearance
Medium brown tone, not overly complex. Clear, no cloudiness. Head is light
amber in color, rocky in character, and lasting.
Nice color, a chesnut brown. A
little light for its style. Good expressive head that stands up. Clear and solid.

Aroma
A nice strong aroma. Some melon, like cantaloupe, comes out along with some
spiciness.
Quality aroma with hints of oak and spice. True to the season. Muddle
fruit - fig, raisins, and pear.

Palate
While thin looking in the glass, an amazingly creamy mouth feel with light fruity
tones.
A light and refreshing barleywine. Alcohol is present but not overpowering.
Hoppiness is not merely present to fortify, it is active in the taste.

Finish
The strength shines, alcohol tones come through but in a pleasant fashion.
Some chocolate and spicy flavors awaken with an ever so slight but again
pleasant bitterness.
I like how this beer is not overdone. Very drinkable without
any quality being overdone. This is a 10% ABV beer but doesn't seem like it.
Alcohol is noticeable but subdued and true to its form.

Synopsis
Very impressed with this style from this brewery. Alcohol tones come through but
only as expected and well blended with the array of flavors mentioned.
A fine
example of a barleywine. Clever balance of flavors with the warming notes one
would expect.
