Beer Blitz Rater Comments
Enjoy this smooth brown ale while autumn takes us on a colorful tour into winter.
Thankfully, Best Brown Ale's toasty malt character makes it a delicious beer for all
types of weather.

Appearance
Color is a mahogany to reddish copper when held to a light. Carbonation
noticeable but this beer also has some cloudiness and floating solids. Head
was decent and rocky, light tan, of medium duration.
Red mahogany to brown.
Nice custardly head that breaks a little after pour. Moderate denseness with
some sediment throughout. Beer is somewhat cloudy but as a true "brown" this
is a pretty good example.

Aroma
Aroma is strong as it should be, mostly citrusy like lemon but includes some
roasted malt and spicy scents in the background.
Light fruity tones coupled with
dark malt and surprisingly some hops. Small caramel sweetness is an asset of
the barley malt. A little spice and crisp tart is provided, both brought by the hops.

Palate
Crisp and clean with mild roasted malt and citrus sweetness. A pleasant taste
with a hint of creaminess, still just a bit thin for an ale.
Good dark American-style
ale. Soft flavors abound under light roasted malt. A good bit, but not too much
sweetness provide good balance to a substantial bite. Overall a good balanced
good drinking ale.

Finish
The initial flavors quickly gain strength and then mild roasted malt flavors take
over along with some mild spiciness that trails at the very end. A pleasant and
refreshing beer.
Very good full flavor that fades slightly to be replaced by clean
crispness. Very good mouth feel throughout. Some carbonation mixed with a
slight creamy character. These textures battle somewhat, with a dryer end
prevailing.

Synopsis
A good flavored refreshing beer, some complexity, but on the light side. A great
beer for the lager drinker that would like to experience some ale qualities in a
crisp beer as drinkable as any lager. Also good for the ale drinker in the mood for
a lighter crisp version.
Consistent all the way through. This is a softer style
example from one of my favorite breweries. Very versatile ale with no
overpowering flavor components, everything melds quite well. I appreciate the
blend of sweet versus tart. Good brew, could be useful as a base for cooking.
