Lagers are bottom fermented, cool temperature fermented,
aged beers. A regular lager is always golden to pale in
color, if darker the beers are classed as "Dark lagers". Lager
in German means to store or age. Lagers lack any harsh
characteristics as they mellow from aging. A lager is typically
crisp, clean, smooth and light compared to top fermented
styles. Characteristically lagers usually completely lack any
fruity flavor tones or complex flavor profiles found in ales. A
typical lager taste is simply light malt, grains, varying levels
of noble hops, and significant carbonation. Taste is
sometimes enhanced with corn ( the former Hudepohl Gold)
or rice ( the well known Budweiser or Japanese variant
Sapporo).
